WILLINGBORO — Police are looking for a township man accused of stabbing a husband and wife with a utility knife Thursday night and then stealing a car holding the couple’s infant child.

The child was located unharmed inside the abandoned vehicle a short time later, but suspect Barkim Williams, 27, of Gentry Lane remains at-large, police said.

Investigators said the stabbing occurred at around 11:41 p.m. after the unidentified man and woman gave Williams a ride from a fast food restaurant to his home on Gentry Lane. After arriving at Gentry Lane, Williams began attacking the man with a utility knife, stabbing him multiple times in the head, back, chest, neck and hands, police said.

The man’s wife was also stabbed once in the arm during what police described as an “unprovoked attack.”

Both adults got out of the vehicle during the assault, and Williams drove away with their vehicle with the couple’s 7-month-old child still inside as a passenger.

A description of the vehicle was broadcast to police across Burlington County and Burlington Township police officers found the abandoned vehicle and child about an hour later on Lake Avenue, police said. The vehicle was parked in the roadway with no lights on and there was no sign of Williams, police said.

The man was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden for treatment of the stab wounds. Police said he was admitted but his condition was not available.

The wife was taken to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County. She was released later that night, police said.

Meanwhile, the search for Williams continues. Willingboro police spokesman Lt. Joseph Dey said Williams is wanted on several charges related to the attack as well as outstanding warrants. He should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Investigators asked anyone with information about Williams’ whereabouts to call Willingboro police at 609-877-3001 or the police citizen’s tip line at 609-877-6958.
